"I teach Math, Statistics and Economics, and my students access and use E-STAT data in all the courses I teach. E-STAT helps my students develop the numeracy and computer skills that employers seek, and my students get excited applying the techniques they are learning to real-life numbers. I also point out to them that simply knowing where and how to acquire data is a very marketable skill!"
"E-STAT is used regularly in my grade 7-8 geography, history and mathematics courses. E-STAT adds a dynamic reality to the theory that is studied in class; a reality that regular textbooks cannot offer. Students become engaged in the discovery of the applications of theories taught in class ranging from the populations of New France to primary, secondary and tertiary industries in geography. E-STAT is a wonderful multi-curricular tool that lets students explore the changes in human geography, business, economics, history and serves as a data haven for statistical analysis in math classes."
"E-STAT gives students access to a phenomenal amount of information in all the social
science fields. It lets them work in the real world, not in the virtual world of theory. By using E-STAT, teachers can enrich their courses, and students gain experience that will enhance their studies and their subsequent jobs."
"For the final term project in the Grade 12 Data Management course, I give a broad study topic, such as the relationship between people's income and their other characteristics. Each student chooses one characteristic—for example, immigrants by period of immigration, hours of housework, level of education or family structure. I assign a major Canadian city to each student, who conducts the study using the appropriate census data in E-STAT."
"My Grade 9 math students use the large bank of current data in E-STAT to develop their skills in interpreting statistics, analysing ways of gathering information, and displaying data."
